Purpose Statement Briefing Document Draft CharterW W W T R A N S P O R T A T I O N O R G KM Committee Purpose Statement.The Committee on Knowledge Management shall provide a forum forcollaboration among Member Departments for the exchange ofinformation industry standard practices experiences and emergingapproaches and concepts related to knowledge management Thisincludes development of policy principles strategies and guidance used.by agencies to plan create identify collect organize preserve disseminate share generate and apply critical agency knowledge Thecommittee will focus on facilitating and promoting strategies andpractices necessary for a Member Department to retain manage share and develop relevant knowledge between employees consultants .contractors and other partners to support the agency mission work innovations and evolution The committee shall also promote thedevelopment and implementation of knowledge management withinMember Departments The Committee shall identify and report mattersof national interest to the Agency Administration Managing Committee .W W W T R A N S P O R T A T I O N O R G Critical Role of AASHTOCommittees and VolunteersW W W T R A N S P O R T A T I O N O R G Adopted Procedural Changes.1 Better define the roles and responsibilities of the committees2 Establish committee activities focused on Strategic Plan goals3 Improve direction from parent committees to subgroups4 Committee chairs be members of a Council the TPF or Board and that subgroup chairs be members of the parent committee.5 Establish steering committees within committees6 Identify cross cutting liaisons between appropriate committees7 Technical service programs guided by appropriate committee s 8 Encourage groups to operate virtually9 Establish Communities of Practice for discipline topical areas.10 Establish ad hoc short term task forces for specific matters11 Formalize the role of the Associate Members12 Allow limited participation by private sector representativesW W W T R A N S P O R T A T I O N O R G.Following the adoption of our current AASHTO strategic plan in 2014, and based on the information revealed during the SWOT analysis and stakeholder interviews conducted as part of that effort, the AASHTO Board of Directors requested a comprehensive review of the committee structure and operations to ensure that we are providing the highest possible value to our members.
